Highlights of S4L Accomplishments (7/1/10 to 6/30/11)

Adult Programs

  • S4L provided comprehensive career and financial education workshops with partners – Alliance, Unity, SER, Eastside University, and the City of Houston – to 129 individuals and  22 additional individuals received personal financial coaching
  • 1,225 people participated in basic, motivating community programs through Houston Money Week Houston, Bank on Houston, University of Houston, HCC, Lone Star CC and Texas Southern Univ 
  • S4L adult programs impacted the lives of 1,954 individuals.
  • Although unemployment in Texas is officially 8.1%, S4L clients increased family incomes by $1,278,989, an average increase of $9,483 
  • Clients also increased their net worth by $199,409 with an average increase of $6,123
  • United Way THRIVE calculates S4L’s return on investment as $25.63
  •  41 professionals volunteered 658 hours ($16,450 valued at $25/hour) 

Youth Programs

  • 442 students registered to attend the Game; 252 attended; 227 graduated.
  • Students attended from 40 high schools; 24 high schools were new to Game 2011.
  • 51 organizations supported students to attend the Game.
  • 437 professionals volunteered 16,497 hours ($412,625 valued at $25/hour).
  • Controller Ron Green & City Council Members held a press conference to recognize the importance of the Game to the City of Houston and support our application to have the Game at the George R. Brown Convention Center. 
  • Senior Project – S4L staff & volunteers surveyed 231 Game graduates directly or through their schools; 100% of students completed high school and 230, 99.6% entered college. (95% Confidence Level, with a plus / minus 3.3% Confidence Interval)
  • S4L’s social return on investment  is $8,335,296 or $16.33 for each dollar invested in the program since inception
  • Sharpstown & Lee high schools enrolled 73 students in a new school-year Game.
