A Return on Social Investment
In total, S4L families, (verified by United Way consultants) have delivered $5.6 million to the Houston economy in increased wages, taxes, social security payments, and net worth with a Social Return on Investment of $14.65 for each dollar "invested" in the program since 2005.
In addition to workshops, S4L offers the following one-on-one services for clients seeking custom-tailored support:
- Crisis — Geared towards clients who have experienced a job loss or the passing of a spouse/partner. We meet with participants to help them avoid making major decisions that can negatively impact their career and financial goals. We work together to jointly construct a plan of action consisting of additional coaching and/or workshop attendance. Our advice is always objective and provided at no cost.
- Coaching — Following graduation from one the three Comprehensive Workshops, participants are strongly encouraged to receive coaching to help them fine-tune their strategies for success. Our coaching is free, but requires a significant time and energy investment. Our attendees are held to high standards by their mentors, and their hard work in this stage pays dividends upon completion.
- Counseling — For participants with unique needs that fall outside individual categories, we offer free individual counseling. Sessions are 55 minutes in length and take place every other week. Financial education and Action Plan development are incorporated into the counseling. Our counseling services avoid infantilizing clients; instead, we empower them succeed even after counseling has ended.
